Grantham University Launches "Stimulus Package" for
Military and Veteran
Students
Grantham's 2009 Education Technology Grant Will Provide
Military and Veteran Students With New Dell Laptops
Kansas City, Mo. March 16, 2009 Grantham University
(www.grantham.edu),
an online university serving working adult students
around the world, today announced that it is offering
its own version of a "stimulus package". The University
is offering a new Education Technology Grant for
military and veteran students that will provide them
with a new Dell laptop computer after they have
successfully completed between 12 and 18 semester credit
hours. The Education Technology Grant is available to
all active duty military, reservists, and national
guardsmen, as well as veterans (honorably or medically
discharged) of any branch of the United States Armed
Services.
"We're very pleased to be offering this grant to our
service members," said John LaNear, J.D., Ph.D.,
president of Grantham University. "Research shows that
service members need portable, up-to-date technology to
successfully persist in off-duty voluntary education.
Many service members find that with a laptop, they can
continue their classes while on deployment, during
training exercises, or when on temporary duty."
The Grantham Education Technology Grant is intended to
facilitate student success and persistence, supporting
President Obama's recent call for Americans to complete
at least one year of post-secondary education and for
the U.S. to have the highest proportion of college
graduates in order to secure America's long-term
prosperity. According to statistics cited by President
Obama, half of the 30 fastest growing occupations in
America require at least a bachelor's degree, and by
2016, four out of ten jobs will require at least some
advanced education or training.
"Much like the President's goal, Grantham University's
mission is to see our students succeed," adds Dr. LaNear.
"We believe this grant will enable our military students
to be as successful as they can be by providing them
with the tools needed to pursue their educational
goals."
Grantham's flexible 100 percent online degree programs
allow students to access their coursework when and where
it is convenient for them, making learning possible
regardless of work and family commitments.
"At Grantham, we want our students to be able to fit
education into their lives instead of rearranging their
lives around traditional educational structures", said
Dr. LaNear. "If they show us they're serious about their
studies, we'll show them we're serious about their
success by providing them with a grant for a new laptop
computer."
